Brad Sullivan is a pastor, speaker, community leader and world traveler on a mission to Empower People. He is the lead pastor of Surge Church in Mobile, Alabama and is the third generation of preachers in his family. It was the experience of growing up in a pastor’s home and serving others that birthed the desire in him to see people’s lives changed.

In 1999, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mobile with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Biblical Studies. He received the School of Religion Award upon graduation for his academic achievements. Brad received his ministerial ordination in 2000 and married his beautiful wife, Mary, in 2001.

Brad has traveled across the United States, has visited 23 countries on 5 continents speaking, teaching and preaching. He has also been an active leader and voice in the City of Mobile bringing local leaders, business people and communities together. He is an author and conference host with numerous appearances on television and radio. He is also passionate about leading a healthy, active lifestyle and encouraging others to do the same.

Brad and Mary have been married for 22 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Slade & Sidney. 

The English Churchman and Historian from the 1600’s, Thomas Fuller, famously said – “Health is not valued till sickness comes.” We should value our health, because health is the highest form of wealth in life. Even God desires health for us. 1 John 3:2 states…

“I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

It is the will of God for you to be in Health. This scripture is clear that living in health is the result of your soul prospering. It is one thing to have a respect for God’s healing power, its another to also respect the need for healthy living. This requires that you proposer in your thinking about leading a healthy lifestyle.

 

Personal Story

In the Spring of 2021, I was dealing with blood pressure issues and forced to visit a cardiologist for the first time in my life. The doctor told me I needed to lose 20 pounds. I was surprised by his frankness, but I blew him off. I had been working out for years and building muscle, but was still carrying too much weight on my body. I started taking the medication the doctor prescribed, but ignored his suggestion to lose weight.

During the following Summer of 2022, I was on the road in a hectic travel schedule. Feeling tired, I began to develop a severe case of acid reflux. I had never dealt with anything like this before. The burning sensation was so chronic it began to effect the inside of my mouth. This is when I realized that I needed to heed the doctor’s warning to lose weight and focus on gut health.

I began to research the importance of gut health and to clean up my diet. I also set a goal to lose 15 pounds. Over the course of the next year, I was able to lose over 30 pounds and 4 pant sizes through healthy eating, intermittent fasting and weight training. The good news is that my blood pressure returned to normal.

This journey has shown me how important having a healthy diet and fitness routine is to the quality of life, especially in the area of gut health. It was the ancient Father of Greek Medicine, Hippocrates, who once said. – “all diseases begin in the gut.

I lost my father to Covid in 2020. This difficult experience was a wake up call that life is fragile. I have two sons and I want to lead a healthy life to be here for them as they grow into adulthood. This has sparked a passion in me to encourage and help as many people as I can to lead healthy lives. What we put in our bodies and staying active contributes to the quality of life or the lack thereof.

There are two time tested methods to being fit and healthy —Diet and Exercise. Exercise is essential to strength and longevity. The fact is our bodies were made to move. However, it is equally essential to have a corresponding diet to complement our exercise. A bad diet will cancel a good workout. People think a diet is all the things they can’t eat, but a healthy diet is simply eating the right things to fuel your body for healthier living.
