They arrived at an oasis called “Marah,” which means “bitter.” The Israelites and their livestock were desperate for water, but they were not able to drink the bitter waters of Marah. Moses sought an answer from God. The Lord showed him a tree and instructed him to throw the tree into the water. When Moses threw the tree into the water it was cleansed and the water was made sweet. The healing of the waters was the first time God revealed Himself as the healer of His people when He declared He was “Jehovah-Rapha” – the Lord Your Healer!
